Basic Hot Cocoa Recipe

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup Hershey’s cocoa powder
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 4 cups milk
  • 3/4 t. vanilla extract
  • miniature marshmallows or whipped cream to taste

In medium saucepan, stir together sugar, cocoa and salt; stir in water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add milk; heat to serving temperature, stirring constantly. DO NOT BOIL. Remove from heat; add vanilla. Beat with rotary beater or whisk until foamy. Serve topped with marshmallows or whipped cream.  Makes 5 servings.
