66 YEARS of professional rodeo will be celebrated July 3rd & 4th in Crawford, NE in 2012! The rodeo when it started was sanctioned by what was known as the RCA, Rodeo Cowboys Association. Years later the transition was made to name the association the PRCA, Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
The history of this rodeo could be a “Who’s Who” for the contestants that have entered the rodeo. Many world champion rodeo contestants have made the stop in Crawford over the Cowboy Christmas 4th of July rodeo run. If you wish to purchase tickets for the rodeo you can buy them at the gate. You will want to show up early as the rodeo starts at 8pm each night and it is a sellout event! The Old West Trail Rodeo is the only PRCA rodeo in Nebraska over the 4th of July.
The Fourth of July is a very busy time for rodeo contestants all across the nation to include Canada. Crawford attracts anywhere from 300 to 400 professional rodeo contestants each year. Last year the contestant list represented fifteen states to include several from Canada and Australia. Over the Fourth of July there are 35 major rodeos going on. Crawford, NE is in the top as a stopping point for these rodeo contestants. The results of the Old West Trail Rodeo are published in the PSN Rodeo Sports News after the rodeo and I might add along with some other major rodeos. Any PRCA contestant may enter the rodeo and this rodeo draws the best in the sport of professional rodeo.
Each year the rodeo board hosts an Old West Trail Rodeo Queen Contest. This year the contest will be held on June 23rd. The winner of this event is given a scholarship to Chadron. Wrangler Tough Enough to Wear Pink is a program that was instituted in pro rodeo to fight the battle against cancer. Cancer is a very ugly disease that has hit home in our families more than often. Wear your pink to the rodeo on July 3rd.
Crawford will host a parade on the morning of the 4th of July and lots of entertainment in the city park. Three miles west of Crawford is the home of Ft. Robinson, one of the oldest historical landmarks in the United States. July 1st-4th there will be a Western and Wildlife Art Show featuring some of the top named artists in the United States.
The Fourth of July will be celebrated in style with a huge one hour fireworks display immediately following the rodeo. Bring your friends and family as our great nations celebrates its 236th Anniversary!
