The Creighton FFA Chapter participated in the 79th Nebraska State FFA Convention held in Lincoln March 28-30. Chapter members received many awards. The chapter also received the Community Development Award, which is awarded to the top 10 chapters in the state for involvement in their communities.

 

    A highlight of the convention was having the winning team in the Ag Mechanics contest. The team members are Shane Strope, Austin Pahl, Garrett Carpenter and Keith Mecke. This team will represent the Creighton chapter and the state of Nebraska at the national level where they will compete at the National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis, IN in October.

 

    The Ag Demonstration team consisting of Amy Doerr, Amber Smith and Alissa Doerr were the runners-up, with their gold medal performance in demonstrating freeze-branding. Alissa Doerr also was a contestant in the Junior Public Speaking Contest. She also received a gold for her speech and ranked fifth in the state.

 

    Seven members of the Creighton chapter received the State FFA Degree, which is the highest degree awarded at the state level. These members included: Corey Boyle, Ali Laflan, Amy Doerr, Adam Hart, Kasey Wagner, Brett Fuchtman and Kelsey Berglund.

 

    Five members had proficiency awards which rated among the top three in the state. After their interviews Amy Doerr, Alissa Doerr, Ali Laflan and Brett Fuchtman each received a second place plaque and Troy Becker received a third place plaque.

 

    The following students received ribbons in their contests in Career Development Events: Shane Strope, Ag Mechanics, purple; Garrett Carpenter, Ag Mechanics, purple; Austin Pahl, Ag Mechanics, purple; Keith Mecke, Ag Mechanics, blue; Kara Anderson, Ag Communications, white; Jackie York, Natural Resources, red; Ali Laflan, Nursery and Landscape Management, white; Brett Moser, Agronomy, red; Jessica Ripp, Agriscience, red; Courtney Becker, Food Science, blue, Erica Zuhlke, Food Science, red; Megan Gragert, Food Science, white; Lance Rudloff, Farm Business Management, red; Trent Hickman, Farm Business Management, red; Justin Frank, Farm Business Management, red; Troy Becker, Farm Business Management, blue; Krista Nelson, Ag Sales, white and Stephanie Schwindt, Ag Sales, blue.
