2006-2007 Wheeler Central FFA News

On Wednesday, December 6, the Wheeler Central FFA went to Loup City to perform in the District LSE competition. LSE stands for leadership skills events. There are many different events at LSE which the Broncos represented well. The Senior Parliamentary Procedure team made up of President Jaci Swett, Secretary Jessie Qualm, member Amanda Waddle, Kristi Eschilman, Mike Brown, and Phillip Smith received 5th place. Wheeler Central had two Junior Parliamentary Procedure teams. Team 1 which included Katie Swett, Tanner Olson, Chris DeWald, Monte Snider, Travis Smith, Krystal Schindler, and Cody Havel received a blue ribbon. Team 2 was made up of Raymond Bernt, Zac Thramer, Danielle Nichols, Jamie Havel, Katie Thunker, and Brandi Williams received a red ribbon. There were also two Agriculture Demonstration teams. The first team received a blue that was made up of Katie Bernt, Amanda Smith, Stephen Sullivan, and Dustin DeWald. They demonstrated how to freeze brand an animal. The second team which included Mark Smith, Calder Russman, Zach Wright, and Tyler Reiter received a red on how to set your traps. Lani Nordhues and Michelle Landgren participated in job interview and both did very well. Jaci Swett and Jenita Qualm both participated in natural resources. Jenita received a blue and Jaci received a purple and will attend state. Melanie Schindler received a red in Junior Public Speaking. In Senior Public Speaking Kristi Eschilman received a blue on artifical insemination and Amanda Waddle received a red on mad cow disease. Jenita Qualm and Klay Kasselder competed in the extemporus speaking. In this event the students are given a topic and they have a short period of time to make a speech about the topic and present their speech to a judge. Klay did very well and Jenita Qualm won and will represent our district at state. In creed speaking Raymond Bernt received a red and Kelsey Weber received a blue. All in all the Wheeler Central FFA did very well at District LSE.
The Wheeler Central FFA is helping out sick children. The Wheeler Central FFA has sent coloring books, color pencils, and regular pencils to nearby hospitals. These packets were sent to the pediatric units in the following hospitals; Boone County Hospital, Avera Saint Anthony’s in O’Neill, and Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh. We also sent packets to the hospital in Ord.
On Thursday, January 18, 2007 the Wheeler Central FFA officer team talked to the 4th, 5th and 6th grade classes about FFA and alcohol. The officer’s talked on what they do as an officer and as an FFA member. We talked on events that we participate in and what we do in them. After that we talked about alcohol and how it can affect you as an FFA member. If caught as an officer you will be kicked off the officer team and be replaced. All in all FFA and alcohol don’t mix.
On February 19, 2007 the Wheeler Central FFA went to the campus of Central Community College in Grand Island to participate in the CDE competition. CDE stands for career development education. The Wheeler Central FFA did very well with many teams placing and being able to go to state. The meats team for Wheeler Central included Monte Snider who received a blue, Tanner Olson who received a red, Chris DeWald who received a red, and also part of the team Katie Swett. This group placed fourth and was able to go to state. The farm management team which placed fifth was composed of Corby Chytka who received a red, Dustin Bachelor, Matt Landgren, and Klay Kasselder. This team also made it to state. The agronomy team made up of Mark Smith who received a blue, Katie Swett who received a red, Chris DeWald who received a red, and Phillip Smith placed third and qualified for state. In the arc wielding Mike Brown received a red. Steffan Sullivan received a blue in the mig wielding. Calder Russman won a blue ribbon in the gas wielding. Overall the wielding team placed third and qualified for state. The agriscience team made up of Raymond Bernt who received 5th, Jamie Havel who placed 9th, and Zac Thramer who placed 16th. The team received second and qualified for state. The Wheeler Central Agricultural Mechanics placed third overall and received a purple. This team was composed of Tyler Reiter, Zach Wright, Jay Palmer, and Bob Suhr. Overall the Wheeler FFA did very well. Congratulations to all of the FFA members that made it to state.
The Wheeler Central FFA went to Pitzers Ranch to participate at the District Livestock Judging. In the Junior High horse division Hilary Kasperbauer and Joni Qualmm received a white. Sydney Gehl received blue. In the Junior division Tanner Olson received a blue in horses and a red in the all around. Katie Thunker received a white in horses and Danielle Nichols received a purple in both horses and all around. Jessie Qualm received a purple in horses and a red in the all around. Good job FFA members, you did great.
On Wednesday, March 28, the first group of FFA members went down to State FFA to compete in Farm Management and participate in the choir. The choir members from Wheeler Central were Jenita Qualm, Kristal Schindler, and Jessie Qualm. The farm Management team made up of Dustin Bachelor, Corby Chytka, Klay Kasselder, and Matt Landgren competed very well but did not ribbon. Then on Wednesday night the rest of the crew came. The Agronomy team did very well. Mark Smith received a blue and Dustin Bachelor received a red. Also on the team were Phillip Smith and Melissa Nichols. The Ag Mechanics team did very well. Jay Palmer received a white and the other members were Tyler Reiter, Calder Russman, and Stephan Sullivan. The Agriscience team did very well with Raymond Bernt and Jamie Havel receiving a red. Also on the team were Trevor Kahl and Zac Thramer. Floral Culture made up of Michelle Landgren, Lani Nordhues, Katarina Race, and Amanda Smith competed and made some beautiful corsages. The food science did very well but did not ribbon. This team was made up of Shelby Olson, Krystal Schindler, Kelsey Weber, and Tyrel Weber. The Junior Livestock Judging team did excellent. This team consisted of Cody Havel, Danielle Nichols, Melanie Schindler, and Katie Thunker. Meats team scored very well with a group of Chris DeWald, Tanner Olson, and Katie Swett. The Welding team received a blue. This team was made up of Mike Brown, Calder Russman, and Steffan Sullivan. On to the individual results, Jenita Qualm received a silver in her Extemporaneous Speech. In the Natural Resources speech Jaci Swett received a bronze. Jessie Qualm received first gold in her SAE on equine. Congratulations Jessie. Good job FFA members you did a great job.
