Southwest FFA received 2nd place in two contests at the State FFA Convention March 28-30th. Over 3,000 FFA members attended the Convention held in Lincoln; NE. Southwest FFA had 11 contest teams in total competing in the state competitions. Teams must first qualify for state through district competition. On average, 50 teams and 200 individuals competed in the different contests. Southwest results are as follows:

 

• Agronomy- 2nd place team in the state. (Jesse Deterding-Purple 5th, Alan Haag-Purple 6th, Jennifer Daffer and Micheal Dack tied for Purple-8th)

 

• Ag Sales- 2nd place team in the state. (Robert Blume- Purple 4th, Matt Bade- Blue 11th, Denton Haag- Blue 20th, and Jeremy Brooks)

 

• Natural Resources- 4th place team in the state. (Micheal Dack- Purple 8th, Robert Blume-Purple 12th, Morgan Potthoff-White and Jennifer Daffer- Red)

 

• Ag Communications- 4th place in team in state (Jim Slattery -Purple 3rd in Press Release, Matt Bade-Purple 3rd in Broadcasting, Denton Haag- Blue 4th in Graphic Design, and Carmon Crawford in news writing.)

 

• Meats- 6th place team in the state. (Megan Conway –Purple 10th, Lesley Ruggles –Blue 19th, Matt Esch- Blue, and Tony Marquardt- Red)

 

• Farm Management- 12th in the state. (Carmon Crawford-Blue, Tyler Brooks-Red, Brett Longnecker-Red, and Nick O’Dea)

 

• Livestock Management- 12th in the state. (Jesse Deterding, Jason Daffer, Ryan Timmerman, Andrew Ruggles, Alan Haag and Sara Mowry)

 

• Agricultural Mechanics- 15th in the state. (Jim Slattery-Purple 3rd in Natural Resources, Tyler Brooks-Red, Landon Ruggles-White, and Nick O’Dea)

 

• Agriscience- 24th in the state (Josh Reiners-Red, Mariah Longnecker-Red, Layne McConville-white, and Shelby Lytle) Welding- 40th in the state (Denton Haag-red in arc, Jeremy Brooks, and Tyler Brooks)
