Shickley FFA Helps With Day Safety Camp
6/8/2007 11:20:19 AM

On Wednesday May 30 members of the Shickley FFA assisted with the setting up for the Fillmore County Day Safety camp.  Justin Kennel, Wade Walters, Jaron Nelson, Tim Peppie, Brett Sheffield, and Jose Gamboa put up tables and chairs for the event and helped with putting together safety bags that included a variety of safety pamphlets and may other safety learning items that participants of the camp would receive.s

On Thursday May 31 four members served as presenters for the activity. Justin Kennel, Anna Brinkman, Brett Sheffield, and Wade Walters delivered a program entitled "Household Chemical Safety" to camp participants. How to read labels on various products and what signal words to look for on the product was the major point presented in the program.  Participants were provided with handouts as reference to be used during the presentation.  After a little practice and review of the major signal words participants were divided into two groups and a relay race took place as students took turns running up to a table with various products, searching for the signal word on the product, labeling the product with the correct signal word and running back tagging the next person in line until all products had been labeled.  After the race products were reviewed for accuracy by the group.   Cody Straight, Bret Carlson, David Hochstettler, Jose Gamboa and Mike Sheets assisted in preparing lunch for the Safety Camp Participants and presenters. A special thanks to all that donated to the camp was very much appreciated.

Eighty camp participants and over 20 volunteer presenters made Day Safety Camp a great success.  Thanks to all those who help sponsor this activity.
