Officer Team Goes on Tubing Retreat
On August 26th, the FFA officer team along with advisors Larsen and Hanzlik, headed west to the scenic Niobrara River for the first officer retreat. Once we arrived at the Sunny Brook Outfitters, we were taken to our starting destination. The journey began and along the way tubes capsized, waterfalls were enjoyed, and many rapids surfed. After three hours of tubing and relaxing on the river, we were tired and ready for the trip home.
COLT Conference
On May 21`st, the Stuart FFA Chapter officers started their three-day adventure at COLT (Chapter Officer Leadership Training). They headed out early to the Leadership Center at Aurora where COLT was directed by the 2007-08 state officer team. Once there, the Stuart Officer Team attended many sessions to learn about leadership and their upcoming roles as officers.
What’s New With the Chapter
The Stuart FFA Chapter would like to extend their thanks to all who patronized their concession stand in the pit area during the 2007 stock car racing season. Support of our organization was very much appreciated. Thank you to the Stuart Stock Car Race Committee for doing an outstanding job at organizing the races and showing great hospitality to our members and their families. Thanks to Kaup’s Insurance for the donation of napkins, Olberding Dairy for the donations of ice, Stuart Locker, K & H Specialty Meats and The Pitstop for their assistance on ordering food items and generosity to the chapter, MC Catering for the timely preparation of taco meat before each race, and to Cobb Motors for their willingness to fill our propane tanks whenever needed.
A special thanks to our parents and families who volunteered their time at the races! We couldn’t have done it without your assistance Thanks to everyone for making this race season another huge success!
Ranch Expo 2007
The 2007 Bassett Ranch Expo proved to be a successful one, just as the bids were on two-50 hours use of a brand new, self-propelled MacDon swather. MacDon Industries and Sandhill Equipment teamed up to auction off the use of a MacDon swather, not just once, but twice! The proceeds from the two auctions were donated to the Stuart and Rock County FFA Chapters. Jake Mauer of Bassett was the high bidder on one of the auctions and donated the proceeds to the Stuart FFA Chapter. The chapter expresses their sincere gratitude to the bidders at the auction and to MacDon Industries and Sandhill Equipment for their generous donations to our organization.
Stuart FFA Members Victorious Over Parents
On July 26th, the Stuart FFA Chapter held their annual softball bash. Everyone knew it was going to be an intense game with members playing against their parents. However, when the first parent batter swung, hit the ball and then TRIPPED over her own feet, the members knew they had the game won. After the parents struck out, it was finally the members’ turn at the plate. First pitch . . . a fastball right across the plate, a swing and it was over the fence! The members started out with a home run. Inning after inning passed, and more and more points were earned. Finally the game was over with the members wining 389 to 12 (just kidding; actual score was 12 to 11). The parents were good sports and we all look forward to playing again with them next year.
After the game we all enjoyed a cream can supper, hamburgers, and lots of desserts. We would like to thank all of our parents for playing and helping with the meal and to Ron Kramer for preparing the field.
