On October 23-27th, 14 members of the Sutton FFA Chapter attended the National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis. The members who attended were Ashley Nunnenkamp, Cory Griess, Taylor Schlautman, Nate Green, Alan Nelson, Gary Griess, Matt Drudik, Jason Lemkau, Shelby Yost, Amy Cox, Mackenzie Schlautman, Dyllon Schmer, Andrew Sheridan, and Nels Johnson. Our sponsor was Brett Nunnenkamp. Another chapter member, Levi Ochsner, was selected as an Agri-Entrepreneur. Justin Green received a silver medal in Extemporaneous Speaking. While there, members attended sessions held by the National Officers, visited the Career Show, toured the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and attended the Dodge Extreme Bull Riding event. Five chapter members received their American Degree, which, is the highest degree an FFA member can receive. American Degree recipients were Reid Ely, Brittany Bolte, Bryce Kramer, Andy Griess, and Jacob Higby.
On Monday, November 20, the Sutton FFA Chapter held its Leadership Night at the Community Center to conduct the Discovery, Greenhand, and Chapter Degree Ceremonies. In addition, Matt McElfresh, one of the current Nebraska FFA Vice Presidents talked about his experiences as a State Officer. The chapter helped decorate the town with Christmas decorations and also created a float to appear in the community’s Parade of Lights. In addition, chapter members worked with the Sutton FCCLA chapter to sponsor a Soup Supper Benefit for Amanda Zoucha, a member of our chapter who was recently diagnosed with cancer. The last activity in December will be the completion of the fruit sales fundraising project in which chapter members sold $12,000 worth of fruit, cheese, and meats. |
