Franklin Goes to National Convention

Nine Franklin FFA members attended the 2011 National Convention held October 18-22. Those attending were Libby Johnson, Matt Gerdes, Bailey McKay, Brooke Dallman, Brian Pedersen, Lee Osantowski, Shea Shannon, Bethany Aberle, and Brittney Ingram. Bailey McKay and Matt Gerdes competed in the Science Fair. Bailey placed 4th in the Zoology division and Matt placed 16th in the Botany division. Highlights from the convention were Dave Roever, who gave a speech on his experience in the Vietnam War. Tiffany Rogers, the Eastern Region National Vice President, gave her retiring address. Vernice “Fly Girl” Armour talked about her experience on becoming America¹s first African American Combat Pilot. For recreational activities, the FFA members attended a career fair and saw many new innovations in agriculture. Members then went to a hypnotist followed by a concert with Blake Shelton, Little Big Town, and Steel Magnolia.
