Ravenna FFA Chapter

Caelan Basnett, Reporter

The Ravenna FFA Chapter has been involved in many activities this fall. They have also put on their own activities within their Chapter. This year’s officers are as follows: Mark Chramosta, President; Brandon Kusek, Vice President; Paul Bauer, Secretary; Ciana Long, Treasurer; Delaney Behrendt, Sentinel; Alex Behrendt, Parliamentarian; and Caelan Basnett, Reporter. The officers attended COLT Conference in May to learn about their responsibilities as chapter officers.   The summer was equally busy as the members helped celebrate the annual Annevar celebration by participating in the parade as well as the first ever Annevar Tractor Rodeo.  All of the students had fun competing and being able to drive some of the antique tractors that were on display for the Antique Tractor show.  The Ravenna FFA members also helped out with a community service project that took them to Gibbon this year.  They were able to assist Mark Clymer and his crew at the Windmill State Recreation area with painting some of the buildings as well as many of the picnic tables.  The students enjoyed being able to spend time outdoors as well as helping with this project.  The Ravenna FFA also had 11 members participate in the 2011 Nebraska State Fair showing in the livestock areas.
The Chapter held their annual Labor Auction in September. The Labor Auction is put on to help raise money for the Ravenna FFA Chapter.   This year was the highest year ever for the Ravenna FFA Chapter, and it was all because of the great sponsors an supporters that we have for our chapter.
Members also attended Husker Harvest Days. They had 12 members work for two different vendors.   This gives the students a hands-on opportunity to see what it takes to be part of the Agriculture Sales industry.  The students also had an assignment on agricultural careers and were given the chance to see the latest technologies that are available in the agriculture industry.  The Chapter also competed in the food drive at Husker Harvest Days. Ravenna brought the most canned goods with over 245 pounds.
The National FFA Convention was held in Mid-October. The Ravenna FFA Chapter had 8 members attend. Mark Chramosta, Alex Behrendt, Paul Bauer, Clayton True, Kora Schott, Delanery Behrendt, Ciana Long, and Caelan Basnett were those who attended. The 8 members and Mr. Ahrens drove 13 hours to Indianapolis. While in Indianapolis they went on tours at The Blue Spring Caverns, Ozark Fishers, an Art Center and a chocolate shop. They were able to learn many different aspects about agriculture that we don’t have right around Ravenna.  They also attended several sessions and leadership workshops while at the convention.  The Chapter had two members from past years get their American Degrees. The recipients were Micaela Boardman and Ethan Zoerb.
The Chapter is having members participate in District LSE’s, CDE’s, and livestock judging in hopes of going to State FFA in the spring. The Ravenna FFA Chapter has had a very successful year so far and will continue to strive for excellence.
