Centura FFA’s 47 in school members have had a very busy, and very good spring semester so far. They kicked off January with sending 13 members to district LSE’s that were hosted at SEM. Right after that, they helped their very active alumni chapter to host a beef BBQ during one of Centura’s basketball games. Over 600 people from both schools helped make this event a huge success. February brought more activity as the members prepared for National FFA Week. The officers cooked breakfast for all the members and hosted State FFA Officer Makhena Theim for a day of workshops. FFA Week included many fun activities such as “Drive your tractor to school” day and “Western Wear” day, along with hosting a coloring contest for the elementary. February also brought district CDE’s in Grand Island where Centura won Nursery/Landscaping and Farm Management, and also qualified an Agriscience team for state. In March, Centura students worked hard to earn more success with winning the junior division of livestock judging. FFA seniors also got very good news, as ten of them learned that they had earned their State FFA Degree through their efforts in their SAE projects. This is the most state degrees at one time that Centura has ever earned. The seniors were especially proud as this was one of their goals. Also, one of those seniors, Kara Reimers, earned a silver placing at the state level for her SAE in Diversified Livestock Production. Looking ahead, the chapter is excited to be sending 29 members to the state convention at the end of March. Finally, they will end their year with a banquet and barnyard for the elementary.
