Red Cloud FFA



Toby Colvin VP, Jacob Nikodym President, Anthony Weber Parliamentarian, Tanner Rupprecht Sentinel, Shelby Peters State VP, Dylan Shannon Reporter, Katie McCleary Secretary, Megan Ockinga Treasurer, and Hector Rodriguez Historian.

At this time we would like to give a recap of this years activities. The first event we went to was National Land Judging in May. The team of Jacob N, Shelby P, Kimberly M, and Taylor Neiman traveled to Oklahoma City. Jacob tied for second place out of 347 students from 35 states and the team placed 24th out of 93 teams.

 

The Red Cloud Officer Team attended Officer training at the Nebraska Youth Leadership Center near Aurora. The officers learned how to work as a team, plan Chapter activities, learn the responsibilities of their office and plan for the upcoming year.

 

Shelby Peters our State FFA Officer was one of the State Officers that helped train us.  We also had some time to bond together as an officer team.  Some of our officers turned out to be the best fisherman there.

 

May 26th members of the Red Cloud FFA Chapter traveled to Bladen to compete in the 6 County Livestock Judging Clinic and contest. The senior Team of Garrett Vogler, Jacob Nikodym, Anthony Weber and Bailey Lewis placed 2nd. The Team of Levi Volger, Austin Tuckwood and Brady Schmitz placed 6th. Jacob Nikodym placed 1st in the Senior division. In the junior high division a team of Lucas Watson, Brody Lewis, and Tanner Jackson placed 4th. Another team of Jamie Nikodym, Justin Shipman, and Wyatt Bell placed 5th. Brody Lewis placed 5th, Wyatt Bell 8th, Justin Shipman 15th, Lucas Watson 17th, Tanner Jackson 19th, and Jamie Nikodym 20th.

 

The Red Cloud FFA Chapter ran the Concession Stand at the South Central Progress Show.

 

The next event was the Premier Animal Science Events  at the University with 15 members attending. We had the 2nd place junior quiz bowl team of  Luacs, Justin, Wyatt, Brody, and Jamie. The Senior Team of  Jacob, Bailey, Garrett, Chance, and Emily placed 4th.  In Livestock judging Jamie placed 6th over all and Brody 17th. Wyatt 29th, Justin 30th,  Lucas 41st .  In the Livestock Skillathon Contest Levi, Hector, and Austin competed.  The Meats team  of Levi, Hector and Austin placed 5th.  The members also had a chance to do some recreating and exercising while there.  The whole gang at PASE.

 

The FFA Chapter members of Dakota Delka and Jared Sibley made a new sign for the Elm Street Center and the shop class rebuilt a creep feeder for Kathy Hersh.

 

The Chapter also served the Alumni Banquet, the Farmers and Merchants Banquet and helped with the Farm and Home Show.

 

At Webster County Fair Brittany and Brody Lewis showed rabbits. Showing beef last year was Jared Sibley, Tanner Rupprecht, Lucas Watson, and Justin Shipman.

During the Webster County Fair some of our members also helped serve the Webster County Fair’s breakfast on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mornings.

 

 

During Street Car Days the Red Cloud FFA put on many different things including a float.  The annual Duck Dive took place at 1:00 and many prizes were given away. The Red Cloud FFA Chapter would like to thank these local businesses for donating to the Duck Dive at Street Car Days. The Hardware Store, Guys & Gals, The Palace, Jared’s Auto, Subway, Oregon Trail, Car Qwest, Kohmetscher Feed Store, Kenny’s Lumber, and C & D Service Center. The fishing tournament was at Indian creek pond and local kids came and had fun fishing.

The Chapter also had water balloon wars which were held in the park.

 

The Schriner Rodeo was held that Sunday and the chapter helped run the events and fixed the meal for the spectators.

 

The Red Cloud FFA Chapter took 22 students to Area Range Judging at Aurora and qualified a Junior and a Senior team for State. The Junior team qualifying for state was Jamie Nikodym, placing 1st, Garrett Vogler, placing 7th, Mathew Morris, placing 8th, and Katie McCleary placing 9th. The senior team qualifying for state was Jacob Nikodym, placing 2nd, Tanner Rupprecht, placing 7th, Dylan Shannon, placing 8th, and Toby Colvin placing 9th. On October 3rd and 4th .

 

We took the teams that qualified for State Range Judging to Sydney, NE. There they competed again with many other teams and placed 29th in the Junior division and 34th in the senior division.

 

On October 5th, 22 students went to Area Land Judging at Nelson, where we competed in judging soils and land classes. The team of Tanner Rupprecht, Dakota Delka, Toby Colvin, and Jared Sibley qualified for state. We had 4 teams place in the top 12. Individually, Mathew Morris placed 4th, Wyatt Bell placed 11th, Dakota Delka placed, 17th, Katie McCleary placed 19th, Bailey Lewis 20th, Tanner Rupprecht placed 23rd and Toby Covlin placed 27th out of 217 contestants.

November 2nd Red Cloud FFA competed in State Land Judging. The contest was held in Wahoo, Jared Sibley placed 11th, Tanner Rupprecht placed 21st, and Dakota Delka placed 40th. The team placed 8th overall. The top five go to Nationals. They were Tekamaha-Herman, Norris, Franklin, Arapahoe, and Central. Central had a score of 895, Red Cloud scored 881.

 

Members went to Impact in Hastings for leadership skills training at CCC. The members were Hector, Kailey, Emily, Justin, Brealynn, Alexandra, Bailey, Jasmine, and Lucas.

 

            In October the following people went to National FFA Convention, Jacob, Megan, Katie, Hector, Dylan, Levi, Garrett, and Austin. While there members toured the Indy Speedway.  As well as Lucas Oil Stadium, Home of the Colts.  Austin and Garrett got into the spirit of things.  The members also attended the Blake Shelton concert.  There was a Bulls and Broncs Rodeo at the Indianapolis State Fair Grounds that they attended.

 

The Red Cloud FFA Chapter traveled to Hastings to the Adams County Fairgrounds to livestock judge.  Twelve schools participated at this event.  The Red Cloud FFA Chapter sent 31 livestock judgers.  In the senior division Jared Sibley, Dakota Delka, Tanner Rupprecht, Dylan Shannon, and Anthony Weber participated.  In the Junior Division Wyatt Bell, Katie McCleary, Tanner Jackson, Matthew Morris, Bailey Lewis, Megan Ockinga, Chance Hersh, Brady Schmitz, Brealyn Lockhart, Emily McCleary, Austin Tuckwood, Cameron Jordan, Nelson Manley, Garrett Vogler and Jasmine Thompson.  In the Junior High Division Justin Shipman, Lucas Watson, Alexandra Tuckwood, Gus Jackson, Andrew Mai, Miranda Felts, Colton Miller, Brody Lewis, and Maria Ockinga.  The students had to judge market hogs, market beef, ewe lambs, market lambs, Angus breeding heifers and breeding gilts.  The Senior Teams had to both judge and give reasons.  Some of the classes also had questions.

            Red Cloud placed 4th in the Senior Division with a team consisting of Jared Sibley, Dakota Delka, Tanner Rupprecht, and Dylan Shannon.  They qualified to go to State Livestock Judging at the Nebraska FFA State Convention.  Jared Sibley placed 6th with a purple ribbon, Dakota Delka placed 13th with a blue ribbon, Tanner Rupprecht 14th with a blue ribbon, Dylan Shannon placed 17th with a blue ribbon, and Anthony Weber placed 45th with a white ribbon.  Ninety-three total students competed in the Senior Division.

            The Junior Team placed 3rd and qualified to go to State Livestock Judging at Nebraska FFA State Convention.  The team consisted of Wyatt Bell, Katie McCleary, Tanner Jackson, Matthew Morris, Bailey Lewis, and Megan Ockinga.  Wyatt Bell placed 6th with a purple ribbon, Katie McCleary placed 8th with a purple ribbon, Tanner Jackson placed 17th with a blue ribbon, Matthew Morris placed 49th with a red ribbon, Bailey Lewis placed 63rd with a white ribbon, and Megan Ockinga placed 74th with a white ribbon.  One hundred and sixty-seven total students competed in the Junior Division.

            The Junior High Division had twenty-one participants.  Justin Shipman placed 2nd with a purple ribbon, Lucas Watson placed 3rd with a purple ribbon, Alexandra Tuckwood placed 7th with a blue ribbon, Gus Jackson placed 10th with a red ribbon, Andrew Mai received a red ribbon, Miranda Felts, Colton Miller, Brody Lewis, and Maria Ockinga all received white ribbons.  Our Junior High Team placed 2nd with a blue ribbon.

 

This years FFA District Leadership Skills Events were hosted in Aurora. The Red Cloud FFA Chapter had 20 members compete.

 

Jamie Nikodym got 4th in the District Creed Speaking Contest out of 23. She was 2 places shy of making it to the state contest. Bailey Lewis also competed in the creed and got a white ribbon.

 

The Senior Parliamentary Procedure team received a red ribbon consisting of Jacob Nikodym, Anthony Weber, Morgan Long, Megan Okinga, Katie McCleary, and Jamie Nikodym.

 

The Junior Parliamentary Procedure team received a blue ribbon and placing 4th consisting of Bailey Lewis. Emily McCleary, Jasmine Thompson, Brady Schmitz, Wyatt Bell, Garrett Vogler, and Austin Tuckwood.  The Ag Demo team consisted of Dakota Delka, Jared Sibley and Toby Covlin.  They recieved a red ribbon and then demonstrated how to wire up a three way switch.  Taylor Goos received a blue ribbon in job interview.  Jacob Nikodym received a blue ribbon placing 3rd and one spot out of  state in Extemporaneous Speaking.  Megan Okinga received a blue ribbon and was one place shy of making it to state FFA in the junior public speaking.  Katie McCleary received a red ribbon in cooperative speaking.

 

This years recipients for the FFA foundations jacket fund were Emily McCleary, Tanner Jackson, Mathew Morris, and Jamie Nikoym. 

 

The local Creed speakers were Bailey Lewis, Emily McCleary, Jamie Nikoym, Wyatt Bell, and Mathew Morris.  The junior high quiz bowl team this year were Evan Sunday, Belladonna Kincade, Teah Colvin, and Maria Ockinga.  Another team of Lucas Watson, Justin Shipman, Brody Lewis, Gus Jackson received a blue ribbon.  Junior High Public speaking was Bella Kincade placing first and Miranda Felts receiving a blue.
