LINCOLN – Don Onwiler has served as program manager with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) Weights and Measures Division for 11 years. Onwiler will officially resign from that position on April 30 to become the Executive Director of the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM).
“Don’s work at the Nebraska Department of Agriculture enabled him to be involved in the National Conference on Weights and Measures, serving on their Board of Directors since 2002, and as their Chairman in 2006,” said NDA Director Greg Ibach. “While we are sad to say goodbye to our friend and colleague, we are excited that we’ll still have a working relationship with Don. He will continue to live in Panama, Nebraska, as the National office will be located in Lincoln.”
At NDA, Onwiler supervises the inspection of commercial weighing and measuring devices in the state and the enforcement of commodity regulations, such as packaging and labeling, method of sale, and net contents compliance.
According to Denis Blank, NDA’s Chief Administrator, “Don has been a very valuable asset to the NDA team. Steve Malone, the Administrator of the Weights and Measures Division, should be credited for his role in supporting Don’s training and activities at the National level. Steve has prepared him well for his new assignment.”
