Reward Set in Waste Dumping
4/30/2008 7:09:09 PM
COLUMBUS -- A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that results in charges filed in connection with illegal and intentional discharging of livestock wastes into Shell Creek, north and west of Columbus.
The Nebraska Wildlife Protectors' Association, in cooperation with the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, is offering the reward in hopes of stopping discharges that have caused several fish kills in recent years.
This year, computerized monitors are being installed on Shell Creek in hopes of more quickly detecting any discharges of manure into the stream.
Anyone with information should call the Environmental Quality Department at 877-253-2603. Any calls will be kept confidential, officials say.
