Lincoln - "Backyard Farmer," celebrating its 60th season this year, now has an app. A new application " mBYF " is available in the iTunes Store for iPhone and iPad devices. It will be available in the Google Play mobile app store for Android devices soon. The free app allows viewers access to everything that the byf.unl.edu website, Twitter and Facebook have, plus enhanced weather information, garden calendars, soil temperature maps and more.
The app was developed by Mark Hendricks and Ruchi Agrawal of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Educational Media. "It puts all of those tools at your fingertips in your backyard," Hendricks said. Another enhanced feature is that all UNL Extension horticulture-related NebGuides are available with the app.
"Backyard Farmer" airs at 7 and 10 p.m. Thursdays on NET1/HD through September. "Backyard Farmer" episodes also can be seen on NET3 Create on Sundays at noon. "Backyard Farmer" is underwritten in part by Earl May Nursery and Garden Centers and Finke Gardens. The series is a co-production of NET Television and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension.
