June 27, 2012, Omaha, Nebraska- The Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Friends, along with Mary Catherine Landen, the 115th Queen of Ak-Sar-Ben, announced today the fourteen recipients of the 2012 Community Grant Program. The matching-fund grants are to be used for support by any non-profit organization which strives to improve their community.
The Ak-Sar-Ben Friends awarded $6,000 in grant money. Miss Landen awarded $3,850 in grant money from donations made to the Queens Legacy Fund. Recipients were selected based on demonstration of emerging community need, the capacity to implement the proposed project, and the proposed results of the project.
Recipients include:
Ohiowa Chamber of Commerce, Ohiowa, NE for the renovation of the community gazebo: $500.
Beaver City Lions Club, Beaver City, NE for the purchase of a community electronic sign: $500.
Hoskins- Woodland Park Rescue, Hoskins, NE for the purchase of a set of Res-Q-Jack equipment: $1,000 .
Schuyler Historical Society Museum, Schuyler, NE for repairs to the Schuyler Historical Society Museum: $500.
Odell Community Foundation, Odell, NE for the Rice Lodge & Conference Center: $750.
Dakota County Ag Society, South Sioux City, NE for a new public address system: $500.
Box Butte County Ag Society, Hemmingford, NE for the Raise the Roof Livestock Barn: $750.
North Platte Community Playhouse, North Platte, NE for the Audio-Visual Enhancement Project: $500.
L2 For Kids, Willow Island, NE for purchase of clothing for poverty stricken children: $1,000.
The NEST Program, Glenwood, IA for early intervention services: $1,000.
Adams County Ag Society, Hastings, NE for repairs to the concession areas of the grandstand: $500.
Stuhr Museum, Grand Island, NE for the HATS Class Transportation for Urban-at-Risk-Schools: $1,000.
Irving Middle School, Lincoln, NE to support the Chimney Swift Photography Project: $350.
Hamilton County 4-H Junior Leaders, Aurora NE towards the 4-H Diamond Clover Tree Project: $1,000.
