Weekly Montana Hay Report
Compared to last week: Sales remain firm. Very good demand remains in the
western part of the state from out of state buyers, good demand in other areas
from in state buyers. Second cutting of alfalfa taking place in the Yellowstone
Valley. All sales FOB the stack and per ton basis in large rounds or large
square bales, unless otherwise stated.
Alfalfa: Premium for export 165.00, small squares horse hay 205.00; Good to
Premium 140.00-150.00 in Western MT, small squares horse hay 175.00-180.00; Good
small squares 125.00-130.00. Alfalfa/grass mix Good to Premium small squares
4.00-5.00 per bale; Good 90.00- 100.00.
Grass: Good to Premium small squares 125.00, 4.00-5.00 per bale.
Timothy: Premium small squares 200.00.
Straw: No reported sales.

sale. Quantitative factors are approximate and many factors can
affect feeding value.
