DC_LS165 Dodge City, KS Fri Aug 1, 2008 USDA-KS Dept Ag Market News Kansas Direct Feeder Cattle Summary Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 08/01/2008 Receipts: 8219 Last Week: 15,678 Year Ago: 10,853 Compared with last week: Steers and heifers steady, thin fleshed cattle off of grass still have good buyer demand. Most order buyers are busy loading cattle bought recently or previously contracted off of the Flint Hills and Osage regions of the country. Earlier in the week remnants of Hurricane Dolly brought some much needed rain to Kansas. Amounts varied from traces to an inch. The results are similar to recent storms passing thru the area; the same places getting missed out west and flooding in some Central Kansas areas. Triple digit temperatures are forecast into the middle of next week. Sales confirmed on 5536 steers and 2683 heifers for a total of 8219 compared with 15,678 last week and 10,853 last year. Volume includes 100 percent 600 lbs and over and less than 01 percent contracts. Feeder supply 67 percent steers and 33 percent heifers. Unless otherwise stated prices are FOB weighing points with 2-3 percent shrink or equivalent and 5-10 cent slide on calves and 3-6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights.
