JC_LS144 Jefferson City, MO Fri May 09, 2008 MO Dept of Ag-USDA Market News New Cambria - New Cambria Livestock Auction Feeder Cattle Auction for 05/08/08 Receipts: 1265 2 Weeks Ago: 823 Year Ago: 1065 Compared with the previous auction; feeder steers and heifers 1.00-3.00 higher. Slaughter cows steady. Buyers actively bidding for all weights, but sensitive to the amount of flesh, especially on calves. Cow numbers have been rolling through the barns lately at least double of normal. Some farmers either loosing rented pasture or converting their own pasture and hay ground to row crops. Demand good and supply moderate. Cows and bulls accounted for 25 percent of the run and feeders 75 percent. In the feeder supply, steers and bulls made up approximately 54 percent of the run; heifers 46 percent; steers and heifers over 600 lbs totaled around 36 percent.
