Cattle Auction Report for 05/13/2008
Receipts: 1338 Last Week: 2056 Year Ago: 1855
Compared to last week, feeder steers sold 2.00 to 4.00 higher and
feeder heifers 3.00 to 5.00 higher. Slaughter cows steady to 1.00 higher.
Buyer activity was particularly noted on the couple of part-load
offerings of heavy weight yearlings, and the steer to heifer price spread
was smaller this week. Planting progress is still significantly behind
historical averages, but farmers were able to play a little catch up last
week. If Mother Nature would cooperate for even a small window of time
many acres could be covered in a short period but more rain is forecast
through Friday. May 10th is often referred to as a critical date for corn
planting in regards to yield loss and that date has come and gone. Grass
growth is also still lagging and the only place it does seem to be
growing is in the front lawn. Supply moderate, demand moderate to good.
Cows and bulls accounted for 08 percent of the total offering. The feeder
supply consisted of 51 percent steers and bulls and 49 percent heifers;
36 percent of all feeders weighed over 600 lbs.
***Cattlemen?s Note: Interstate Regional Stockyards will hold a Special
