JC_LS174 Jefferson City, MO Thu May 15, 2008 MO Dept of Ag-USDA Market News Joplin Regional Stockyards Cow and Bull Auction Close for 5/14/08 Receipts: 1210 Last Week: 1365 Last Year: 1522 Compared to last Wednesday, slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00 higher with most advance on the breaking and boning cows. Slaughter bulls sold 2.00 higher. As slaughter prices continue higher many bred cows will weigh out more dollars than producers will give to take them back home to raise another calf. Most cows sold as replacements were 2-6 years of age. Several dispersals included in the offering providing a good supply of cow/calf pairs. Supply was heavy and demand very good for slaughter classes.
