JC_LS759 Jefferson City, MO Wed May 14, 2008 MO Dept of Ag/USDA Market News Cuba- Interstate Regional Stockyards Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 05/13/2008 Receipts: 1338 Last Week: 2056 Year Ago: 1855 Compared to last week, feeder steers sold 2.00 to 4.00 higher and feeder heifers 3.00 to 5.00 higher. Slaughter cows steady to 1.00 higher. Buyer activity was particularly noted on the couple of part-load offerings of heavy weight yearlings, and the steer to heifer price spread was narrower this week. Planting progress is still significantly behind historical averages, but farmers were able to play a little catch up last week. If Mother Nature would cooperate for even a small window of time many acres could be covered in a short period but more rain is forecast through Friday. May 10th is often referred to as a critical date for corn planting in regards to yield loss and that date has come and gone. Grass growth is also still lagging and the only place it does seem to be growing is in the front lawn. Supply moderate, demand moderate to good. Cows and bulls accounted for 08 percent of the total offering. The feeder supply consisted of 51 percent steers and bulls and 49 percent heifers; 36 percent of all feeders weighed over 600 lbs. ***Cattlemen?s Note: Interstate Regional Stockyards will hold a Special Stock Cow Sale on Friday, May 16th beginning at 6:30 p.m.*** Feeder Steers Medium and Large 1 Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 11 255-271 268 131.00-136.50 134.89 5 340 340 134.50 134.50 32 451-498 477 115.00-119.50 116.75 9 478-490 481 111.00-112.50 112.16 Fleshy 12 502-516 510 115.50-117.50 116.72 38 554-598 575 110.00-118.00 113.58 36 606-645 622 110.50-116.00 113.76 35 657-680 668 113.25-116.85 115.52 5 724 724 108.50 108.50 5 769 769 105.85 105.85 47 860 860 103.75 103.75 13 991 991 94.35 94.35 Feeder Steers Medium and Large 1-2 Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 9 322-343 329 122.50-127.00 125.44 23 362-396 379 116.00-123.00 120.22 11 431-448 437 110.00-115.00 114.00 6 467-480 474 110.50-112.50 111.49 27 502-545 533 111.00-114.50 112.80 15 550-578 565 110.00-113.75 112.64 24 602-646 612 103.50-109.00 107.66 7 606-627 615 112.00-114.00 112.87 Thin 5 665-672 669 100.00-109.50 103.78 7 654 654 115.50 115.50 Thin 4 715-730 722 103.00-104.50 103.76 3 780 780 104.50 104.50 Feeder Steers Medium and Large 2 Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 3 518 518 108.25 108.25 8 736 736 95.00 95.00 Feeder Steers Large 1-2 Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 4 481 481 111.25 111.25 3 597 597 106.00 106.00 Feeder Steers Medium 1-2 Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 4 398 398 112.50 112.50 Feeder Heifers Medium and Large 1 Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 28 407-425 416 109.50-112.50 110.57 29 464-498 479 106.50-108.75 108.17 40 508-548 527 106.00-111.50 110.00 35 550-598 580 106.00-111.50 109.37 14 633-635 634 102.50-106.85 105.60 35 817 817 94.60 94.60 29 982 982 91.10 91.10 Feeder Heifers Medium and Large 1-2 Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 4 312-342 327 102.00-108.00 104.86 24 353-398 373 106.50-108.00 107.33 31 400-445 424 100.00-110.00 105.28 49 462-490 479 100.50-109.00 105.13 32 500-549 534 100.00-106.25 102.67 46 550-598 576 99.75-108.75 104.51 9 670-681 676 95.50-96.75 96.36 3 660 660 89.50 89.50 Fleshy 3 730 730 95.50 95.50 5 831 831 93.25 93.25 Feeder Heifers Medium and Large 2 Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 3 373 373 102.00 102.00 3 763 763 89.50 89.50 Feeder Heifers Large 1 Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 4 541 541 98.50 98.50 3 668 668 98.10 98.10 3 753 753 92.60 92.60 Feeder Heifers Medium 1 Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 5 278 278 115.00 115.00 Feeder Bulls Medium and Large 1-2 Head Wt Range Avg Wt Price Range Avg Price 6 368-385 379 117.00-122.00 118.62 7 458-498 487 113.00-115.00 113.54 11 513-540 526 108.75-112.75 109.61 4 558-560 559 104.50-107.75 106.12 6 670 670 100.00 100.00 10 750-763 760 92.25-93.00 92.40 Source: MO Dept of Ag/USDA Market News Service, Tracey Switzer, Market Reporter, 573-751-5618 24 Hour Market Report 1-573-522-9244 www.ams.usda.gov/mnreports/JC_LS759.txt 0720cdt md .
